Congressman Joe Sestak: What sets apart first responders from others is the ‘dignity of danger’

October 6, 2007

Media, PA – Congressman Joe Sestak (D-PA) attended and spoke at the Brookhaven Fire Company’s new building dedication ceremony and the Collingdale Fire Company’s 101st Anniversary Banquet.  “There is something that sets first responders apart from other professions and that is the ‘dignity of danger.’ We ask these men and women who serve as our first responders to place their lives in harms way for our community, and this was epitomized by 14 year old volunteer fire fighter Chris Kangas, and most recently fire fighter Michael Reagan,” said Congressman Sestak.  “It is my honor to be part of the Brookhaven Fire Company’s building dedication today. I am inspired by the heroic and dedicated service of this volunteer company, which provides critical public services to Brookhaven Borough, and congratulate the entire company for all their service and for moving into its new home.”

Congressman Sestak introduced the Christopher Kangas Fallen Firefighter Fairness Act (HR 2224) to bring equity to fire fighter benefits, regardless of age or status as an apprentice or trainee. The Congressman will be meeting with the International Association of Fire Fighters union to garner support for the Kangas legislation.
The new Brookhaven Fire Department station is located on Two Cambridge Rd in Brookhaven. The Brookhaven Fire Company is a 100% volunteer organization that has an active membership of approximately 60 members.  The company sponsors a Fire Safety Carnival each May to educate the public regarding fire prevention and safety in the home.

Congressman Sestak also attended the Collingdale Volunteer Fire Company No. 1 and Emergency Medical Services’ 101st Anniversary Banquet. For the last 101 years, the company has proudly served the borough of Collingdale, Aldan and surrounding areas with Fire & EMS Protection along with Collingdale Fire Company #2.

Sestak Wins!

Sorry for the late post, everyone - I was listening to a great speech by the next Congressman from Pennsylvania’s 7th District, Joe Sestak!

By a blowout margin of 56-42%, Joe Sestak has defeated Curt Weldon and taken the first step to putting our country back on track!

I have been honored and humbled to work for a man who I believe is already a great American, and will soon become a great Representative.

1 hour left - Know your rights!

Polls close in just over 1 hour, at 8 PM. Please note: if you are in line at or before 8, you have the right to vote. Of course, do make sure to stay in line in order to save your spot.

If there are long lines at the polls, please be patient. We need your vote! And if you are back at home, or not busy, and there is a long line at your local polling place - go keep other Dem voters company!

Let’s make sure every vote counts.

2 hours left

Fewer than 2 hours left! In the next 2 hours, we have the opportunity to change the direction of our country - we just need to get out to the polls!

I’d like to share a message from Bill Walsh, Campaign Manager:

Two hours left. We can’t be outworked — we know that. Leaders lead!

Couldn’t be said better.

4 hours to go

It’s 3:50 PM, which means there are only about 4 hours left to make it to the polls.

Every single vote makes a difference, especially as we are facing a long-term incumbent with a powerful GOTV machine working for him.

Make sure to go vote!
